Admissions Undergraduate Master’s Program Doctoral Program

Details of the information session

On-demand introduction of our divisions (undergraduate and graduate degree programs) for the National Institute of Technology (or equivalent private or public schools) students.

The Division of Materials and Manufacturing Science is accepting students, who are interested in applying materials science to create new materials utilizing physics and chemistry and are curious about processes and systemization of “Monozukuri” using new materials. We seek students who want to advance science and technology through research in cutting-edge analysis and manufacturing technologies, and those who wish to become future leaders in various industries, including automotive and transportation industries, aviation and aerospace industries, medical and bio industries, information communication industries, environment and energy industries, and the basic materials sector.

For students in materials engineering

You will learn the importance of materials in Monozukuri and understand how new materials are created under the constant backdrop of significant technological developments. The Division of Materials and Manufacturing Science at Osaka University provides education in materials science to create materials with properties or functions that currently do not exist. Thus, manufacturing science should design processing methods to manufacture products using new materials. The education is provided through world-class cutting-edge research and advanced specialization courses utilizing methodologies such as PBL (problem-based learning). Research spans diverse targets such as the creation of high-strength long-lasting materials to realize a sustainable society, materials to generate clean energy or to conserve energy, processes to recycle resources and materials, and biomaterials to improve the quality of life for a super aging society.

For students in mechanical engineering

Have you ever thought, “I wish I could find a material with such properties.” “Why did this structure break despite the durable design?” “Will processing and joining make it difficult to build my machine?” “What can I do to efficiently manufacture this?” The Division of Materials and Manufacturing Science offers materials science education and research by controlling materials from the atomic-level to the nano and micrometer-levels to create new materials with the desired properties or to enable the design of machines, which are impossible using existing materials. Manufacturing science education and research include processing and joining methods to fabricate real products from materials and scientifically deriving efficient production systems. For those with a mechanical engineering background, learning materials and manufacturing science will build the foundation to become highly specialized and skilled engineers with broad knowledge to systematically think through Monozukuri.

Students in the fifth year at the National Institute of Technology (or equivalent private or public schools) can enroll in the third year of the undergraduate program upon passing the transfer examination held in the first half of August. Those in the middle of the second year of the advanced course can enroll in the graduate program (master’s program) upon passing the graduate school entrance examination. Advance course students with academic excellence may be admitted to the graduate program by passing the preliminary evaluation in the first half of May and a recommendation of admission in the first half of July.
